This is my Story

Spinal cord injuries belong to one of the most serious and they can change your life within one second. The way how your life is changed depends on which part of your backbone was injured. However, I would say that more important is what you can do about it. I think it is good to always remember the following: There is a relation between your body and your mind which can create conditions under which it is possible to be well again. The way how to achieve this, or at least to improve your life, is productive life style.

Until you come to the level in which you are able to lead productive life, which will be satisfying for you, and I believe, it will be joy for you as well, it is good to get as much information about your stage as possible.

At the beginning you are just shocked from all what happened, and of course, from the change which suddenly happened in your life. A man “stays still “and is afraid of doing something, and at the same time, a man knows it is necessary to go forward. The question is HOW?

There are a lot of questions for which an answer is necessary… nobody is able to answer them all.. What I already know is that despite sitting on a wheelchair, I can still make decision and live my life according to what I imagine. Life goes on also after spinal cord injury and it is possible to take control over it again. However, as you will see it is sometimes really hard work.

I am a 33-year old woman – a spinal cord injury survivor. I live in the middle of Europe, in a beautiful country, called Slovakia, a country which is a member of European Union. Through my case I would like to show that despite of being in 21st century, people like me, those ones on a wheelchair are treated here in a really strange way.
